Sita Sings the Blues

I came across this wonderful piece back in High School and it's just really cool. It's written, produced, directed and animated by artist Nina Paley check out her blog @ blog.ninapaley.com to find out more about her, she's a really interesting person. The thing I love about this specific piece is her way of intertwining elements of her own life, events from the Ramayana( one of the two great epics on india) and the music of Annette Hanshaw. When I first heard about this I was like, how in the world do all those things go well? but Paley finds a way to bring it all together and its just incredible. She created the entire cartoon with 2d animation and Flash and it took her an estimated 5 years to make the entire piece. Which I think is pretty fast considering she did the bulk of it by herself. Unfortunately she did have some problems distributing the piece due to some copyright infringement but it all got settled as her fan base helped her earn the 50,000 dollars it took to use the music in the film.
If you have time watch the whole movie its worth it:
