One More Thing

I don't know if anyone has ever heard of Andrei Tarkovsky. He's a Russian filmmaker who makes some very interesting movies. There an acquired taste (definitely not a date movie, unless that's what you're into), but some shots are so cool. I strongly recommend trying to brave through a couple of his films and study the photography.

Aww! please! Tarkovsky is probably one of the greatest filmmakers ever. He "sculpted in time" as his own book says. I just added a shot picked up at random, and although I don't think it is the greatest shot ever I think it gives you a hint. His films are probably among the most influential works of cinema.

One of his cinematographers used to be Sven Nykvist, who also photographed for Ingmar Bergman and possibly the greatest ever in my opinion.

I would recommend you see at least Stalker, Ivan's Childhood, and Sacrifice. This last one was his "testament" film (he knew he was dying). It is one of my favorite films of all time without a doubt.
