The Sims Online Becoming EA-Land (Free)

From Tech Crunch - Click Here for Article

This is an interesting move and I think shows the power of "free". I haven't used the Sims Online, but I would be interested in seeing how this may provide a platfrom for education at lower grade levels. The comments about the economy in the article are interesting as well.

This seems like a futile effort on the part of EA. Second Life is having enough trouble becoming enormous, and one of its more appealing characteristics is freedom of expression (whether that be through pseudo violence/sex or radical ideas and structures)

I think The Sims Online was one of EA's greatest missed opportunities, and they don't miss many. They were way out ahead of this idea, but they didn't see how they could leverage the Sims idea to encourage participation and purchase of their other games.

One other issue: as far as I can tell, you need to download a big chunk of software to your machine, and the software isn't available for Macs. Boo!
