Is it me, or has SL been overrun with technical problems lately?

I really like this application, but this company needs to get their shizzle together.

Honestly, I've never been thrilled with the SL program. But you're right, it seems like they have been experiencing a *lot* of technical problems lately. The crash during class on Tuesday and now this, which has been going on for several hours. If SL really wants to be taken seriously by the business community, they really need to get their stuff together quickly. Maybe the new leadership is exactly what they need.

Yeah, I have to admit that when we were putting in our "challenges/potential obstacles" into our proposal we neglected to plan for "service unavailable for large periods of time." Just some extra excitement to make things interesting ...

I agree that the technical problems have been more lately, but compared with Windows Vista, its a picnic! What a lemon of an operating system. I can't believe it was released with this many problems.

Maybe SL uses servers that run Vista?

Seriously though, I've never used Vista so I can't speak from experience, but it seems to be very hit and miss. For some people it runs great and for others it is terrible. Why it's not more consistent, I don't know.

Though I do remember Windows XP having a similar situation when it came out. A lot of people had trouble running XP and went back to Windows 98 or 2000. Now, people have trouble with Vista and go back to XP. Probably in the next year or two most of Vista's problems will be worked out. Either that, or Vista will become the next Windows ME, which really was a lemon of an OS.

More often than not your experience with a particular operating system is tied to the hardware you are running it on. I'm not claiming that the software end is perfect--far from it, but Windows has been plagued with driver issues for a long time.

For the most part, bad drivers are not Microsoft's fault. It's the hardware manufacturers who release them without fully testing them or even understanding all of the complexities of the OS (ok this might be Microsoft's fault).

There have been efforts to remedy this mess, namely Vista 64. With Vista 64, only drivers which have been tested and signed by Microsoft can be used. Guess what, this means there are no drivers for all but the most common hardware. Oh yeah, and there are tons of incompatibilities with 32bit programs... as a result 64bit Windows is a totally unattractive option.

Personally I like Vista except for that infernal pop-up asking if I want to allow a program to do something.

You guys do realize that you are essentially the pioneers for the second version of the internet right? Think of SL as an alpha or beta building of the internet 2.0
