Nina Dobrev Announces Exit from The Vampire Diaries

"I always knew that I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure," says actress Nina Dobrev in the announcement of her exit after the season six finale of The Vampire Diaries and let me tell you, I am torn. This Instagram post is what I woke up to this morning, along with a few Tumblr posts saying "RIP TVD." It's not a sudden thing, I know. Ever since Nina talked about wanting to get out of acting as a high school student, there's been buzz about how much longer she was actually going to stay.
But still I can't seem to wrap my head around Elena, the main character of the series of books by LJ Smith, and one of the three main characters of the TV series, not being in the show anymore. Is it possible for the series to actually go on without the character the series revolves around? I know that the producer, Julie Plec, says that the departure of Dobrev isn't going to effect the plans for the renewed season seven, but I still can't imagine it going on. I really can't.
Okay, so I've probably said this a million times by now. Especially with this show, I've always hit points where I've thought that there was no way they could recover, that there was no way I was going to go back for more. Except, I always have, after Jenna died, after Alaric died, after Jeremy died, after Damon died, after Kathrine took over Elena's body and, you know, so on. But, I can't help but feel that this time is different.
I'm chilled with Dobrev's statement about how nothing in TVD is quite what it seems. But, I think I'm more chilled by the fact that she's always known it was going to be a six season adventure. I feel kind of betrayed, you know? I've dedicated myself to this show, and to Nina as an actress, I watched her and supported her as Mia Jones when she was on Degrassi, and followed her straight through TVD. But, now I feel like she was just setting me up to tear me down. She decided that this was how it was going to go but no fans were aware in the slightest.
I want to applaud her for deciding to move on, I really do. I just can't. As a fan of the show and her acting on this specific show, I'm hurt. I think she's done an amazing job as Elena Gilbert, and I truly could not see another person filling those shoes. She's had to do so much for the part, including acting the part of four separate people in just one episode. Honestly, she's an amazing actress. I don't know how that'll carry over to her next role, but I know she's done such a good job with this role that I am truly devastated that it's going to be over so soon.

I wish her the best on her future endeavors, but I wish she would've followed this series through. I can't wait to see the fate of this show now. Fingers crossed that they find something to fill the gap.

My guilty pleasure

Return of Vampire diaries beings March 12. Now, some people have a problem with vampire and werewolves considering we see so many similar stories nowadays. However, I must admit Vampire diaries and the Originals are my guilty pleasure. If you haven't heard of the originals it is understandable. But, The vampire diaries have been on for years and continue to go strong. The originals is a spin off of vampire diaries focusing on the original vampire family, the Michealson's. Claus, known to be the cruelest, heartless bastard of the family gets a werewolf Haley; who was introduced in the vampire diaries, pregnant.

This unheard of pregnancy with a immortal vampire and werewolf was defiantly a plot twist in the story. It makes the baby… a miracle, or some would say curse. The Michealson's were not aware of their family curse at first. The first born in every generation of the family if supposed to be an offered sacrifice. The Michealson's have to send away their baby and attempt to fake her death to save her. Alliances form and the stakes get higher for the community in New Orleans.

New orleans is the home of vampires, warewolves, witches and even non-sumernatural people. The communities have overlapped and have had peace for the most part.  But the continuous power struggle between these groups is an on going problem. There are a few power hungry people that get in the way of true peace in New Orleans. Every side has their story,  their goals and at least one person who want to ruin the peace for their selfish reasons. Everyone wants to claim New Orleans as their home and will do anything to up the antis if necessary.

I cannot wait for more of this story to unravel and find out if klaus can be the loving father we all know he is capable of. You can see with Klaus's character that he is changing and evolving from the evil vampire he was in the Vampire Diaries to now. He wasn't always a murderous blood thirsty killer, but a person who was dealt an unfortunate hand. He had an abusive, unloving father named Nick, who was plotting klaus's death. In every waking moment Nick obsessed over destroying Klaus. Klaus was the result of his mothers unfaithfulness. I feel for this character in a way. Despite his cruelness in the past. I hope to see him in a different light in the seasons to come. But hey, he will always be the misfit of the family and that truly defines him as a character. Tune in on the CW to watch what happens and who comes out on top.

The Vampire Diaries; Where Is This Going?

We're in the second half of of the sixth season of the CW TV series, The Vampire Diaries, and I'm starting to get a little apprehensive. After the last episode aired on February 19th, I'm starting to see some things that are starting to repeat themselves, and some things that are making me nervous for the show's well-being. It's throwing me for a loop and I'm not sure how much I can handle anymore.
Ever since I first started watching this show, I knew watching a new episode was the equivalent of throwing my heart out onto a busy for everyone to run over as they pleased... I'm only being as dramatic as the show. Seriously, though, we have love, we have lust, we have family betrayal, we have death, vampires, witches, werewolves, doppelgangers, and just about everything that could possibly ever go wrong in a fictional and nonfictional universe. I can almost guarantee that your favourite character is not safe in Mystic Falls.
Honestly, I don't know how many times I've finished an episode saying "I am done with this show, I'm never watching again, I hate it." When Jenna died, when Alaric died, when Jeremy died, when Jeremy died for real, when Damon died. Honestly, so many deaths, so many tears shred I can't even count them all. But, honestly, lately, the deaths don't scare me as much, I have way too much hope that they're going to come back. Of that short list of four I just gave, three of the people who died are currently alive and well.
Still, I've been caught up in this roller coaster for years now. But, as of the last episode, I have a few complaints. I also have some praises too.
The episode titled "Let Her Go," dealt with a lot of things that  were sort of different for the Vampire Diaries. Sheriff Forbes died a natural death, Jeremy left Mystic Falls because he was moving on with his life, not to follow some strange magical cycle, and in the previous Sheriff Forbes and Damon uncovered that the truth behind Elena's parents crash was actually an accident. These things are so normal, so natural, they were so unexpected for a show that focuses so heavily on the supernatural. I think that including things like this every so often is more than necessary for a show like this, it throws us for a loop. We don't expect it.
That being said, there are some very predictable things, and some things that I'm just not sure about all around. I can't believe that we are going to go through the whole vampires "turning off their humanity" thing AGAIN, I've been here, I've seen this, it upsets me, I don't want to deal with it all over again. I don't care that it's Caroline, I don't care if it'd be any different if Stefan told her his feelings sooner, I don't want to go through this again. I'm sorry for my lack of interest, but I find it hard to believe that I would I'm the only one thinking this. I predicted it would happen as soon as she said she "had to make it through the day," I probably could have predicted it sooner if I thought that revisiting that plot was even a slight possibility. What was NOT predictable was the part where, as Bonnie was finally getting out of the other world prison, that she saw Damon and Stefan's mom. ???? ???????????????????????????????????????????? What??????
I literally do not understand how this can be possible. Of course, I'm excited about the possibilities, but HOW MANY years has it been? How, how, how is this possible, I feel like I should be screaming for answers at this point. Where did this come from? When did they decide this would be acceptable? I'm just so lost, I can hardly form complete sentences over the subject matter. Don't get me wrong, though, I think that they'll be able to pull it off, and I'm excited to see how they're going to deal with it. Especially with it being alongside how on earth we're supposed to deal with Kai, or the fact that everyone is going to be overjoyed that Bonnie is finally back, or the fact that Jeremy is out of Mystic Falls. I guess I'll be eagerly waiting to see what comes next. Unfortunately. As always.

Another Promising Season?

A couple years back, around in 08, vampires were becoming popular once again. For some they thought it was just a quick fad, but for others, they believed it was an idea that never got old. Although the hype about supernatural creatures has died down somewhat, there are still some good films/ TV shows involving them that do a great job of presenting them.
One show that many people tune into is known as The Vampire Diaries. And yes I have written about this before, but this show has been my favorite for years now. The Vampire Diaries show is based off of the series by L.J. Smith. Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, executive producers of the show, premiered it on September in 2009 on The CW television network. Within that first episode, it received the highest ratings for a television premiere on any network. The amount of viewers live was 4.91 million and it did not stop there. Including DVR viewings, the ratings went up all the way to 5.7 million! And as each episode premiered every week, the ratings continue to stay strong at 4.5 million or higher. Many people were impressed with the first season, saying that it looked very promising and was done very well for a supernatural series.

Seasons two and three, continue to follow the success of season one’s ratings. However once season 4 approached and ratings dropped from 3-4 million to 2-3 million. And it continued to drop as season 5 came along. Many people lost interest in the show in season five because of too many storylines. As well as the fact that after season four, the Originals’ characters were no longer on the show. The characters were put into a spinoff show called The Originals. Many viewers were upset about this, however then started to watch The Originals. Although the show has lost viewers, it still is rated as one of the most viewed television series on The CW’s network, and right under it is The Originals. So obviously people are still interested in the show, however how much longer until the show comes to an end?

I know watching it myself I did see a change in the series once the Originals left. I found myself getting bored, and seeing the writers just scratching for any material they could use to get audiences back into it, as much as they were when season one premiered. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the show, but it still is definitely not the same. Before season five, the biggest threat in the show was the Originals.  In the storyline they were the biggest and baddest creatures out there. However, I now realize that towards the end of season four it just seemed like they were looking for something worse, mainly because they knew the Originals were heading off into a new direction.  This is when they introduced Silas. Silas was now seen as the most terrifying creature. And for a while I was confused because I thought the Originals were the first vampires to ever exist on earth, but then somehow the writers made it seem like Silas was. They began to mix plot lines and it was confusing me as a viewer. Now after so much time has past since that point in the series, I now understand that Silas was originally a witch, belonging to the Travelers. However, after many events he eventually became immortal and trapped. So technically he is the longest living vampire.
But still it was plot changes like these that confused me and turned me off from the show.

In season five, everyone was wondering what was Silas going to do. And we all found out that he was Stefan’s doppelganger. His character only lasted for seven episodes in season five. And the worst part of it was that this big bad character they made was being this malicious for love. When I found out that was the reason why Silas was such an asshole, it made me upset. No one that is fighting for love would ever act so cruelly. I feel like the writers needed a new villain to replace Klaus, which obviously they did, however they did not do it the right way. The plot did not make sense with the character, and maybe I’m wrong and someone probably disagrees with me on this, but I truly believe it did not match up. And finally when he died I was relieved. His character was just annoying and there were no redeeming qualities about him, or any reasons that justified his cruel actions.

After Silas died, there was what I’m going to call a ‘dry period’ in the show. The show brought up a new enemy that was human. Of all things to fear, they picked a stupid HUMAN scientist. Really? Come on. This show that I had loved went from a show about supernatural beings and how they can still fall in love or feel hurt, to science trying to dissect supernatural beings and make their lives a living hell. This just made me mad, it was boring, and it was like the writers simply did not know what to write for months. And then somehow they morphed that plotline to connect with the witch travelers. Season five started off with about 2.6 million viewers, and ended in 1.6 million viewers. And to top that off they killed off their best character! Damon Salvatore, the impulsive, selfish, sarcastic, charismatic guy that everyone loved, was killed off.

I remember going on their Facebook page and seeing millions of comments saying, “He is the only reason I have continued to watch this show,” or “If you don’t bring him back I’m going to stop watching this show altogether”. And I mean I don’t blame these people, he was and is my favorite too.

But not only that he really had a huge impact on the show. He was the underdog, the person people could relate to because he was realistic. He was selfish and took what he wanted. He loved to drink alcohol all the time. He rather save the girl he’s in love with from dying, than her best friend. And even while he faced death, he always had some sarcastic comment ready to go.  Everyone was mad that they picked him. So being that he was my favorite character I did research to see if he was contracted for the next season, and low and behold he was.
Season six premiered October 2nd, 2014. And so far it has NOT been a disappointment. Surprise, surprise, Damon is actually still alive…Just not on earth. And the show has stopped the plotline with the human scientist evil doctor and is back to focusing on super naturals. I don’t know if there will be a season seven as of right now, however, season six looks very promising to me. It reminds me of the early TVD and although there are still many plot lines, they are not nearly as confusing as they once were in season five.  It’s hard to say if the show will continue or not because well look at season five, it was one of the worst, but it still got signed for a sixth season. Clearly people still really care about this show and the evolving characters,  so hopefully the writers continue this good streak and help finish the stories of the characters in the right way.

Doppelganger Madness

Nowadays all you see on TV really is reality shows. Which sometimes they can be funny, but they can also be simply boring. However, if there is one non reality show that is still on TV, and that I've consistently watched for five years, it would have to be The Vampire Diaries. I know what you're thinking, stupid vampires. Although the title is somewhat cheesy, the show is definitely not that.

The show has many different plot lines which I think is what makes it so strong. The series starts off in Mystic Falls, Virginia, focusing on the main character, Elena, whose parents had just died in a car accident that she was apart of. Eventually she meets Stefan, who is a vampire, and they begin dating. Along comes Damon, his "bad brother", who eventually Elena falls inlove with. It becomes one big love triangle followed by all the other subplots that help build the show. The first season premiering in September 2009 on the CW, gave audiences just what they wanted to see. The show wasn't just a typical story about a high school girl whose parents die and falls inlove with let alone vampires. The story focuses on other characters, not just Elena. Who is Stefan? What was he like in the past? How did he become who he is? Who is Damon, why is he the bad brother? What involvement did Elena's parents have in the vampire community. The show brings the audience into the lives of multiple characters, so you aren't just focusing on their love story, you're also focusing on other things. And I think it is a very hard thing to be able to pull off the plot line of vampires because it can be done in such a cheesy way. A good example of the cheesy plot line of vampires is Twilight. Although the books were somewhat good, the movies were just plain horrible. And so, due to the success of season 1, The Vampire Diaries continued, and is now starting its 6th season this October!

Anyway, I'm going to talk about one of my top favorite plotlines that they did in this show, and how they pulled this awesomeness off. The writers chose to deal with the topic of doppelgangers. When Stefan firsts meets Elena, he acts kind of weird to her because low and behold Elena is identical to the vampire that 1. turned him into a vampire and 2. he was inlove with. We find out this person is Katherine. Now although that's what peaked his initial interest in Elena, he later finds out they are completely different people. In episodes, we go back in time to 1864, and we are introduced to Katherine and we find out the kind of person she was and still is. For starters, she played both brothers at the same time. She acted as if she was inlove with both of them and they were all going to live together forever. She is very manipulative, is great at getting her way, and uses sex as a tool. Once the audience is actually presented with real life Katherine, we find out more characteristics she has. She is selfish and puts herself first for everything. Survival is her number one goal. Where as Elena is pure, she is selfless and falls inlove helplessly, and would do anything to save her friends or family. She does not lie, does not hurt anyone or anything. They are polar opposites which is why they both hate each other. Katherine believes Elena has somehow stolen her happiness. She believes that Elena does not deserve all the love she gets, and that she, Katherine, should be living the good life and not having a worry in the world. Meanwhile, the audience is realizing how psychotic really is because she is such a horrible person that kills anyone at any moment, and Elena doesn't. Elena does not like her because all she does is kill and or hurt the ones she loves most.

Katherine Pierce

Elena Gilbert

Being that these characters are 100% different, this required the actress, Nina Dobrev, to have an incredible amount of talent. Not only did she do both roles, but she made them completely different and pulled it off. If that doesn't scream amazing actress, I don't know what does. And as soon as you were getting use to two Nina Dobrev's, the writers choose to throw in another doppelganger. Say hello to Amara! The original Petrova doppelganger.

Just Amara

Amara turns out to be the original Petrova doppelganger. Petrova being the line of their specific doppelganger. Although Amara didn't last long on the show, it was important that the writers add her character in there. Amara helped shape where Katherine and Elena originally came from. She was a combination of both of them. We find out that she is the anchor to the other side. Meaning any supernatural creature that dies, has to pass through her, which causes her a huge amount of pain. In the first picture, she is seen as a statue. The witch, Qetsiya, sentenced her to that form for eternity because she was having an affair with Silas, the man that she was inlove with. Amara definitely put her love interests first like Katherine. However her love for Silas was pure, like Elena's. And finally after all the years of torture, when she is unfrozen, she chooses death for herself. She does this to rid herself of the pain, unlike Elena or Katherine. Elena would never throw her life away no matter how horrible things got. And Katherine wouldn't waste her life for something so insignificant, she would take control of it.

Seeing these three characters develop throughout the show definitely helped shape some insight on background stories. And I gurantee you that if any other show tried to do this, they would have a very, very, very hard time pulling it off like the writers of TVD did. And that goes for acting too. Nina Dobrev was able to take these three characters on and make them completely different through small things. In the photo above, you see Katherine with one hand on her hip, and kind of leaning foward, and then she draws back as if shes bored. Then there is Amara in the middle with her hands crossed over one another. Something that people did a long time ago in a way to show respect, or stay out of the spotlight. And finally there's Elena on the right with her arms crossed. They are crossed in a way as if she's nervous, but wants to continue on and see what happens. All three characters displaying small different movements, and this completely differentiates them. And because this plotline was so complicated, I fell inlove with it. It was done so well, it is basically now impossible to beat.

LONG LIVE TVD
