Ellen Degeneres' response to online critic, Larry Tomczak

Ellen Degeneres, who has her own popular talk show, responded to a pastor, Larry Tomczak, on accusing her of promoting a gay agenda along with the rest of the media.

Larry stated, "Ellen DeGeneres celebrates her lesbianism and "marriage" in between appearances of guests like Taylor Swift to attract young girls."

As a longtime outspoken leader in the conservative community, Tomczak encouraged parents to fight the "indoctrination and propaganda coming from those advocating a gay lifestyle," offering advice for keeping children out of the influence of stars like DeGeneres, Jillian Michaels, Anderson Cooper, and Michael Sam.

Ellen usually does not answer to online critic's, but as she said on her show, she decided to make an exception to being on this list, and responded perfectly on her talk show.

Christian writer Larry Tomczak, who regularly writes for the Christian Post, is outraged at the gay agenda in Hollywood.  He recently addressed the "tsunami" of gay acceptance, claiming it is an "abomination."  Ellen responds in a witty and respectful way.  Ellen states that she is married, not quote on quote "married".  She then goes on to say that she does not even know what "celebrating her lesbianism" means, and continues to make fun of the ignorant fact.  Ellen accuses Larry of watching a lot of gay TV!  As he criticized many other TV shows that feature gay couples.

To conclude, she said: "The only way I’m trying to influence people is to be more kind and compassionate with one another.  That is the message I’m sending out. I don’t have an agenda. I’m not here to brainwash anyone."
Then an assistant handed her a black and white hypnosis wheel which she began twirling at the camera, and spoke her closing statement.
"Attention youth of the world: I want you to live your lives being exactly who you are. Be true to yourself — the most important thing is to be true to yourself.
The second most important thing is that you wear Ellen underwear and only Ellen underwear."

I applaud Ellen for being so cool, calm, and collected about her response.  The fact that she can turn anything into a humorous joke makes her the beloved talk show host that everyone loves.  I do believe Larry was out of line to attack TV shows and celebrities, and I believe that Ellen handled it very maturely.

Striving to be the best

When I was young my parents introduced me to the world of Disney. I remember the first video I ever watched was Mickey's Steam Boat. In the video Mickey is whistling the most catchy tune that I can still hum to this day. When I got a little older I became fascinated on how the music, and the sound was created. My uncle (who worked as a Production Designer for Disney) saw me watching loops of old Disney clips and later sent me a book titled "Demystifying Disney. This book basically revealed everything behind the scenes in Disney animation. The chapter that fascinated me the most was about this guy Doc Kane who works with Mixing all the sounds for animation. His name is Doc Kane but most just call him Doc. With over 300 projects under his belt and a slew of awards and nominations, including four Academy Award nominations, Doc has one of the longest and most impressive resumes in the sound business. Re-recording for over 35 years, Doc has worked with hundreds of talented actors including Tom Cruise, Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Robin Williams to name a few. He is also the trusted ADR mixer for dozens of legendary filmmakers such as: Tim Burton, James Cameron, Clint Eastwood and Taylor Hackford. Never one to toot his own horn, Doc is known as one of the best in the industry, his name alone drumming up praise and admiration from his colleagues and clients alike. Doc talked about automated dialogue replacement or ADR which basically means you take what is being said by these actors and transform it into what the character says in the film. Doc talked about when he was younger he used to take a boom mic and a Nagra recording device and record different ambiance's. And this fascinated me that you could literally record anything and through sound make people believe that your actually there. I guess this made me realize how lucky I am to be in a place where I can play around with all different types of audio equipment. And for that I am extremely grateful for what I have, and what I want to be

Finding Dory

This week, Ellen Degeneres announced on her show that the sequel to Finding Nemo will be hitting theaters in November 2015.  The sequel will focus around the quirky, forgetful Blue Tang, Dory.  The title? Finding Dory.

Immediately, I was thrilled.  Me being the Disney fanatic that I am, I was excited to see that Finding Nemo was going to return to the big screen.  I was also very excited to see that the movie would be focused on one of my favorite characters from the original movie, Dory.  Since Dory was my favorite character from Finding Nemo, I can't help but be excited for this film that is to premiere in two and a half years.  I think it will definitely be a treat for my generation to see the story that we saw as children continue as adults.

But then I started to get wonder if this may be an unnecessary extension of the classic Pixar film.  Part of what made Dory so lovable was the fact that she was a supporting role.  I feel like an entire feature length film of Dory being forgetful may be too much Dory.  The basic story line for Finding Dory is still unknown, but I have a feeling it will be a LOT of Dory.  I hope Pixar can keep the line between funny and too much uncrossed.

Regardless, this movie comes out the day after my 22nd birthday, and I'm already hoping that I get tickets for my birthday....

Professionally Unprofessional Crew (VIDEO)

My friend Ben shared a link on Facebook that I thought was too funny not to share with all of you. Ellen Degeneres featured a short segment on mishaps involving the chyron, which occurred to such an extent in such a short time that there's nothing to do but laugh through it, and that's just what the news anchors did.

This reminded me of a conversation we had in class about all  crew members knowing exactly what their job is and being in charge of a certain aspect.  Clearly, the person in charge of chyron was either incompetent or there was actually something wrong electronically with the system, but it reminds us all about the importance of specialization. Sure, everybody needs to know how to do certain basics in different aspects of a production, but people also need to be very closely involved with their assigned position, and know how to instantly troubleshoot any problems that may arise, so that something like this never happens (even though this is a studio production, the lesson still applies.)
