Last Wednesday, Linden Labs releasing an enterprise version of Second life that allows a company to have the database on their own server and behind their firewall. This seems like a smart move for companies and I wonder if they may have a little more control on the speed and workflow within their own "enterprise" world within second life.

Linden Labs is frozen in the pre-OS past. They are already way behind in the VR technology and their unwillingness to open-source their project (save for very limited segments, like the viewer) will be their doom.
I doubt that many "enterprises" will cough-up 55,000 dollars a pop to license a virtual garden. We certainly won't.
The proverbial kids-in-the-garage are as we speak, creating the SL killer, and it will be released under CC.
