Blurring the Line

Over the past few months I have begun to rediscover my interest in video games. For several years I thought of them as childish and wanted no part of them. I have only recently looked at them as artwork, and that change in perpective was brought on by viewing the trailer for Assassin's Creed Revelations

I have never been so immersed in a trailer for a video game, at points I truly felt I was watching a film. The attention to and level of detail is astounding. This piece is phenomenal on every level, aside from the outstanding visuals that border on photorealism the music playing along with it is perfect. It captures the epic journey that is taking place within the brief length of the video.

The idea of video games as art is something that I ignored for far too long. I am excited to come back to the video game world with an entirely new perspective and re introduce myself to interactive art.

Assassin's Creed 3

Ubisoft just released Assassin's Creed 3 on October 30th, the fifth installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise.  I love the Assassin's Creed franchise and they look fantastic and have a great story.  The main story revolves an age old battle between the Assassin's and the Templars and the main character is Desmond.  In the games you play as Desmond's ancestors to find hidden artifacts that are throughout the world.  Assassin's Creed 3 had a lot of hype leading up to it and it lived up to it.  After a lack luster previous installment in Assassin's Creed Revelations, Assassin's Creed 3 came back with new smoother controls, a bigger world and a good storyline that gives you more gameplay with Desmond.

In Assassin's Creed 3 you fight in colonial America on the verge of the American Revolution.  The templars have decided to back the British, so naturally the Assassin's have decided to back the citizens who want independence.  There are three beautiful regions you can play in which are Boston, New York and the Frontier.  All three places look fantastic, and the visuals simply are fantastic.  The cities look fantastic and they are great to play in.  The Frontier looks great and the high cliffs and tall trees look amazing.  It is also very fun to hunt in the woods.  The water also looks fantastic and is an amazing aspect of the game.  The multiplayer is also the most unique multiplayer experience you can find in any game.  This game is a must play and you really should go back and play the four previous installments of the franchises.
