Terra Nova

I recently watched the series premier of Fox's new show Terra Nova.  This was a two hour long premier that was the number one rated show for their target audience, 18-35.  I thought that the show was a great idea and they can go far with it, I think they can do a lot with the concept, which is probably why it was already picked up for a second season.  That said the show had issues.  The problem with the premier was that they tried to fit to much into the show.  It was as if they threw together as many story and plot lines as they could, to catch as many viewers as possible.  If you didn't like the love story going on, you would like the father son drama, if you didn't like that then the bad guys secret agenda would catch your attention.  It moved way to fast, it jumped from one plot seed to the next without explaining or elaborating anything.  They could have turned each part into an entire episode. They barely explained how they ended up 85 million years in the past in a parallel time stream  in Terra Nova, and they never explained one of the protagonists escape from a maximum security prison. I understand that they needed to get the the meat of the show, Terra Nova, but a little explanation would have been nice. Another major issue is that it is written poorly. It is as if the writers think the viewers are dumb.  They have characters say things that do not need to be put into blatant words, small nuances and actions would be much better. The show is on Hulu so you can judge it for yourself. I am going to keep watching and hope they figure out what direction to move in.  The show has a lot of potential, it just needs to be focused.
