The Bates motel, things you may not have known.

SO I know in one of my blog post before, I talk about the bates motel and talk mostly about the characters. However, in light of all commotion The Bates motel is causing. This drama series sure keeping its fans on their toes. Now, Instead of reviewing what amazing show it is and go on and on about how much I can't get enough of it I decided to do a little research.

The bates motel creates an eery feel throughout  the show and their house in general is something that creates a good scene. What I found out though, is that the roof of the famous house is actually not even there. It is added on in post prediction. With the unit we are learning in class, I felt like bringing this up would correlate to that. You rally can add on anything you want and create the perfect set you desire without having to use funs in building it.

Another random fact about bates motel is that it isn't the first time someone has tried to do a spin of of psycho. IN 1987 NBC produced a sequel to the film, however the plot is a lot different then we are seeing in this series. The original sees was about a boy who was a troubled teen who then ends up in an asylum. The boy meets Norman bates and after norman dies the boy tries to renovate the motel. Due to low ratings and negative reviews the poi lot was not picked up as a seres like it intended.

Another thing you may want to know about The Bates Motel is that the '"ending" of norman bates isn't intruded to be the Psycho in the movie that they are basing it off of. The writers, producers and directors want to create a unique version of the story. ALSO, another random fun fact is that Freddie Highmore (Norman) will be graduating with a degree in linguistics. He is Fluent in arabic and Spanish. I have no idea why this show intrigues me so much, but I just had to talk about it again.

The Bates Motel

For all you scary movie/thrill seeking enthusiast I got a show for you. The bates motel seasons 1 and 2 are now on Netflix. this series is based off of the award winning movie Psycho.

This show follows Norman Bates and his family through a strange and interesting adventure. Normans sanity is questioned a lot more in the second season and you can start to see the transformation into the "psycho" that he truly is. In season 1, his gentle and kind nature didn't seem to match who he was when he was older in the movie. The questionable relationship between his mother, Norma and Norman himself was the only thing that I could see that would push him over the edge. Even though that is still the case in the second season, his blackouts and misbehaviors tell a different story. This strange yet thrilling series defiantly keeps you on your toes. You want to feel for norman, yet at the same time you know some of things he does is wrong. Is he this kind and gentle person really? Or is just the psychopath pretending to be all those things. I guess I will have to see when this story progresses.

Bates Motel

I have been following the new psychological thriller TV series "Bates Motel" and so far it’s very, very good. Vera Farmiga provides a wonderfully nuanced performance as Norma, Norman's domineering mother. Freddie Highmore is a dead-ringer for a young Anthony Perkins. The series begins after the death of Norma's husband, when she purchases a motel located in a coastal Oregon town so she and Norman can start a new life. This is no American Horror Story. There are no ghosts or goblins here; Just one boy's forming psyche that eventually turns him Psycho. I am very excited to see where the writers take it. The stock is very cool. The show looks old but has a fresh and 21st century feel to it. It is well shot and the plot twists so far have been incredible. The hints at the movie are awesome as well. They are so subtle but really do it justice. Every monday night at 10 P.M. on AE a new episode premiers and I am very excited to watch the progression of this.

The Departed

Martin Scorsese has made dozens of incredible films, many of them being classics. But the one that earned him is one and only Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture was his 2006 film, The Departed. Set in South Boston, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to be an undercover cop in the Irish mob run by ganglord Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). Collin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is a criminal working for the Irish mob and Costello, who has become a Massachusetts State Police Detective. Both Billy and Collin attempt to gain information about the organizations they have infiltrated. However, both the police and Irish mob become aware of the moles inside their organizations and Billy's and Collin's lives are suddenly put into danger. Each man must work quickly to find the other man and take him out before they get taken out by the organizations.

With an amazing cast featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winston, Vera Farmiga and Alec Baldwin, The Departed is an outstanding film that everyone should go see, if you can get past the abundance of violence and cursing that is in the film. This film simply has it all. A great cast, great cinematography, great editing and a great script. It is one of my personal favorites and every time I watch it, I am sitting at the edge of my seat.

I think my favorite part of the film is the scene on the top of the rooftop, (SPOILERS AHEAD). Both Billy and Collin have found out that the other is the rat in the organizations. Billy told Collin to meet him on the top of the roof and when he arrives, Billy arrests Collin. Detective Brown, played by Anthony Anderson, also comes to the rooftop because he knows who both Billy and Collin are. Billy takes Collin down the elevator at gunpoint and as soon as the elevator doors open, Barrigan, who is another detective working for the Irish mob, puts a bullet through Billy's head and Detective Browns. Collin then puts a bullet through Barrigan's head, making sure that there are no loose ends. This scene is very intense and you do not see the murders coming at all. I jumped in my seat when I heard the loud bangs.

Also just as a side note, my brother actually works in the building where this scene was shot.

The Departed is a terrific film and I think it is Scorsese's best.
