Golden Doorknob Recap!

Ok so you all of you guys that DIDN'T go to the golden doorknob awards yesterday...You all suck!
But to be quite honnest I was really surprised by how well done the finalists and honorable mentions were. A lot of them had really creative shots and the lighting was really well done. You could tell that the producers of the films really took their time in setting everything up and finding the right people to play particular parts. Even though my groups doorknob was in the "looser reel" the audience was laughing and to be quite honest I feel like that was what my group was going for, to make people both remember playing those games and laugh about the "what ifs". But all in all, I'm glad for everyone who received something.

Finally Back in my Right Mind

Ok, so I know I haven't posted in a while, but with so much stuff piling up the last few weeks I've hardly had a spare moment to think. But now that our doorknobs are done, I can take a minute to breath. So Doorknobs are done and turned in and all that good stuff, I think ours turned out alright, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what everyone thinks of it. Next thing, I ran across a few articles online recently that I thought would be interesting to share. So with the first one I feel like the title says it all, its titled "Writers Gild Chooses 101 Greatest Screenplays", (the article title is the link) and I feel that there are a lot of noteworthy titles on this list. The second article that I came across, isn't as serious and a little more comical, but still something I didn't realize. Its a list of things that originally were made up in different movies and tv shows that have actually come true/been created. The article is titled "8 Absurd Jokes That Predicted Real Life Events" (The link is the article title). Just some things I thought were interesting to share.

Doorknob

I'm just finishing up the VFX and green screen stuff for our doorknob. I think things are looking good and im surprised at how well the footage looks considering it was my first time doing any work like this. I'm absolutely thrilled the doorknob is finally over. I was never a big fan of doing doorknobs in class and my opinion remains.

Forms, Legal, and Shenanigans

Everyone planning to film on city property, you may want to pay attention. So, we all know that to film on city property, we need to submit a form to the Department of Public Works at least two weeks in advance (see the form on the Field Production research guide on the IC Library site, or go here. But, what about the insurance form (item number 2 on the form)? Well, as IC students filming in the city, we are covered by the college through the Office of Risk Management, but the office need to get a form at least 10 days before the shoot (and I would recommend getting this paperwork in before submitting the form for the Department of Public Works). Click here to get to the page you need for the Risk Management forms.

Also, I realized that I haven't been doing these entries for the past month or so, so I'll try to get one down every day for the next week or two (personal goal).

Doorknob Weekend Recap and Important Realization

Hey All,
So this weekend seems to have been a big weekend for everyone, shooting their doorknobs. Our group, (Alyssa, Matt, and I) did really well overall with our shoots. Saturday we really lucked out with the weather in the afternoon and got one out of our two outdoor scenes completed. Today we shot the opening and ending scenes, which was actually really good because of the weather.

We did run into a small glitch though concerning audio for one scene. For some reason our mic wasn't working in the beginning, we caught it right away thankfully, and were able to fix it. This does bring up a really important point. A lot of the xlrs from ppecks don't seem to work or are bad. There is a way to check this though BEFORE leaving ppecks. They have an xlr tester on the desk by the center computer, and its actually a really good idea to check the cables this way so that when your on set and ready to start shooting you don't realize that the cable is bad and you won't have any audio.

Wednesday post out of obligation

First off I would like to say: DAMMIT REBECCA YOU AND THE REST OF YOUR SPARK CLASS ARE SO LUCKY I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO SKYPE WITH DIANE SAWYER AND/OR DAVID MUIR. WHY AM I SO UNLUCKY. WHYYYY. *runs into corner, cries, moans, groans*

Anyway.

I didn't watch the Oscars. To be honest, good for all of the films that were nominated or that won; but I can't stand the glorification of the ceremony. At least the Grammys has music throughout the show -- and come on, when Arcade Fire has bicycles riding around during a light show and when Em and Dre and Rihanna are singing together in front of a fire, it's going to be more exciting than anything you could imagine at an awards show. Besides, James Franco was supposedly high the entire time -- awesome and hilarious, nonetheless -- and Anne Hathaway just reminds me of that ditzy girl that I dated in high school that I broke up with after seven months because she was going to college and her ex-boyfriend was closer to FSU and it was just going to work out better that way. But I digress. I digress.

Moving on to Doorknob news: Buhhh.

We have no cast. Maybe one person. But maybe not. I don't know. We have a script and a few locations. Great. However, we need more time than "finish shooting before Spring Break." I know of Doorknob producers who aren't shooting until April. We need to make this great. We need time for reshoots. We need time for editing. We need time to work around when our locations will let us shoot. This isn't something we can rush; and to be honest, I'd think it best if we forgot that this project was for a class and if we really focused our energy toward the competition. $2000 isn't something to sniff at.

That's all. Now going to work on storyboarding. Also the lights are off in the classroom and I'm going to fall asleep. Why did that guy's entire head disappear? The nose of that gun is not that big. Fo fo real.

Video Filter

Arturo had a good idea for our GD where we play with the color corrector and video style of the movie to make the surroundings of our main character look dark and gritty while allow her to be bright and cheerful, emphasizing the point that she doesn't belong at this food company. On idea I had was using that effect--most often used in photography--where everything is de-saturated in color while a select one or two colors is bright and rich. That way, we could have our main character stand out by dressing her in a specific color not used in the background and then making all the other color de-saturated except that one, giving the video an interesting clash. My only problem is that I don't know what the effect is called, though I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about. Does anyone know what that effect is called or whether or not it is in Final Cut Pro?

Golden Doorknob

I'm in Luke and Sean's group, and though I like the Pandora's Box thing better than this one, I figured I'd put up another idea our group had to fulfill my blog requirement. This other ideas was a generic crime-show like thing (CSI, NCIS, Bones, Law & Order, etc.) where we see a piece of a crime in the beginning (a murder or something) and then a team of investigators works to find who the culprit was only to find it was a doorknob.

Rubber

This trailer was recommended to me by my good friend Sean Yoo. It stars a tire as a main character will psychic abilities. Hes on the run, I mean roll. Its completely ridiculous but well done so watch it. Possible Golden Doorknob mass murdering doorknob? I don't know......
