Supporting Characters Are Sometimes The Best Characters

I have recently noticed within a couple of different movies that people talk more about the supporting characters than the main characters that the story is placed around. The most recent movie I have noticed this in was the Disney animation film Frozen.

I was watching Frozen for the seventeenth time with roommate and she stated that she really just watches the movie for Olaf, who is the snowman in the movie. Every single time I have seen this movie I fall more and more in love with him. He is just so funny and entertaining, to be honest I really watch the movie for him as well. There are also other supporting characters like Kristoff and Sven who just make the movie amazing. They add so much to the film. Without them the film would be a good story, but very little entertainment. When you search the best scenes from Frozen, the majority of the clips that are chosen contain these three supporting characters. Here is proof!

The same thing with the Despicable Me movies, both the first one and the second one. While I love the movies as a whole I really watch the movies for the minions and the three little girls they are adorable! After watching the second movie I realized that they really created it around the minions. There was a lot action from the minions and the little girls.

 So with all that being said there are many movies that I have seen where the supporting characters are better then the actual main characters. Supporting characters are my favorite characters!

Last night my roommates and I were carving pumpkins and we decided to dress up in our minion costumes to be festive. Then we decided to make a video attempting to mimic the minions in the video below.

So before you watch the next video please keep in mind we did it in one take and only saw the video once.

It would definitely not receive an A in the grade book and will not be a YouTube sensation. However, it was spur of the moment and so much fun! If I had to do it again these are some of the things I would do to make it better...

      1. Script it with time queues

,     2. Study each minion's body language

      3. Get a real party blower (not a straw)

      4. Use a better camera (not my Macbook photo booth) 

      5. Have a separate screen displaying the video simultaneously  

      6. Rehearse

      7. Do more post production on a better editing system (not iMovie)

Although it is not great quality and the singing and actions are not on queue, I hope you enjoyed the video and have a fantastic Halloween weekend!

Never Too Old For A Children's Movie

Some people say that Disney is just trying to make a quick buck by re-releasing Finding Nemo in 3D this weekend. They might be right, but I don't care. I am still going to see it regardless.

Finding Nemo came out on May 30, 2003. I was an eleven-year-old schoolboy at the time, around 4th or 5th grade. Since then I have seen the film at least ten times. My friends and I, now college students, still quote the movie at each other to this day. It remains one of my favorite movies of all time. That's right, Nemo is right up there with films such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Inception. 

Finding Nemo isn't the only movie made for kids that makes it to my unofficial favorites list. Disney classics such as Aladdin, Lion King, Up, and Toy Story. are all there. So are other children's movies like Despicable Me and Rugrats in Paris. 

Some of these movies, like Aladdin, have a certain nostalgia factor to them. I have great memories watching the Disney classic in my living room with my brother, singing along to "Prince Ali," my favorite Disney song to date. They were great when I was a kid, and they are still great today. Other films, like Up, came out when I was in high school. I was not the target audience, and yet I went to see it anyways.

I firmly believe that nobody is too old to go see a nice heartwarming kid's movie. 

I remember going to see Despicable Me with three of my friends. We were something like seventeen-years-old at the time. We went on a day off from school. When I asked the lady at the counter for a ticket to the film, she gave a small chuckle before asking me for my $9.00. Did she think I was a fool for wanting to go see a rated 'G' children's movie on my day off from school? Whatever she thought, I didn't care. The film was great. I laughed and connected with the characters, just like any other good movie.

So all in all, I don't care that Hollywood is getting lazy and re-releasing Finding Nemo in 3D. I find it to be another chance to see a great movie up on the big screen again, even if I need to shell out $11.50.

There's nothing wrong in escaping the hardships of life by returning back into your childhood every once and a while.
