Next Saturday will be the last shoot of the season for Game Over. Which is going to be weird since a lot of the cast and crew will be graduating. But last weeks shoot (April 13) was pretty awesome. It was a specialty episode- GAME OVER: FEMINISM EDITION!
Four ladies (including myself) hosted the show and reviewed comic books, TV shows and video games that were empowering to women and feminist culture. I got to say, it was pretty fun being sassy about nerdy things... But I usually am so it wasn't that different of a day for me.
Next weeks episode will also be another specialty episode. Last year, our finale was a "Gameboy/Hot Tub Time Machine Episode". The hosts go back in time to the 80s to meet previous hosts and end up ruining their lives. This year, we'll be going back to the 90s and probably going to do the same thing but with other previous hosts. I guess Game Over really likes ruining lives...

Sportsball & Comic Con
In honor of this weekend’s Cortaca game, Game Over will be continuing with our tradition of “Sportsball Coverage.” The episode involves a running joke that we as geeks don’t know anything about sports, which gives us plenty of material to work with when doing writing assignments. My personal favorite is the “Top 5 Madden Games” segment, which has become a tradition for our Sportsball special.
We’re also finishing up editing our footage from New York Comic Con. I’ve been editing the round table interview for China, IL with Brad Neely and Daniel Weidenfeld and the interview with Avery Monsen and Jory John, the pair behind the children’s book All My Friends Are Dead. Both interviews were hilarious, and I can’t wait to watch the finalized Game Over Comic Con special!

Patron Initiated Reservations and The Criterion Collection
Thursday afternoon, I attended an ICTV producer’s meeting in which we discussed Park’s new Patron Initiated Reservations system. Being able to make equipment and location reservations online is an incredible convenience! I want to familiarize myself a little more with the PIR system, so I’ll begin to set up Game Over’s recurring reservations for the semester.
After talking about silent movies in class, I wanted to find a handful of films to watch as a nice break from “talkies.” I decided to start by going online to The Criterion Collection, which is a wonderful resource that not only distributes classic films, but has information on films in the form of film essays, articles and photo galleries. I’m currently reading about the Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu and his silent film A Story of Floating Weeds, which he actually remade in color. Out of curiosity, I’d like to view both versions of the film.
Another interesting feature of The Criterion Collection is their assortment of various celebrities’ Top 10 lists. I looked at the musician Adam Yauch’s Top 10 list, who’s selections include films by Akira Kurosawa and Wes Anderson as well as Federico Fellini, who I believe was mentioned in class. After A Story of Floating Weeds, I think I’m going to watch Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria. Unfortunately, The Criterion Collection website lists it as being out of print, but I’ll see if I can’t find it somewhere!
