ubrowser is being developed by LL in association with Mozilla.
In my opinion this is technical innovation at its best.
Just think of the possibilities, interactive web APPLICATIONS that are written in javascript, php, or someother language, applications that are developed as common gateway interfaces....etc, that are accessible from the web would soon be accessible from SL.
As a developer myself, I would be very interested in programming web applications that are not designed to be viewed in a regular browser but to take full advantage of the next and coming Havok 4 physics engine in SL.
I guess Gary would be happy to know that it would be possible to get interactive news in SL.

An interactive browser in SL would be cool. I'm wondering, though, what the benefits are for using this type of application. Do we really need a 3-D browser in SL? How does it enhance web search?
We absolutely do.
It is not about enhancing the we search. nor just about browsing the web. It transforms SL into its own independent platform for web development.
Well, the news is a pretty basic application of this. If SL allowed for a little more back and forth data than it does now, you could do some useful news apps using the existing SL tools. This concept provides a much wider range of possibilities.
Mikael, the author actually tackles the question of benefits in his FAQ page about the browser. I think idea is giving it to developers, and then asking the question, "what can you do with it?" It could be a lot of things, of which I think displaying news might be the least interesting. The answers are likely to provide a lot of uses the creator couldn't envision (both good and bad) and those evolved uses are really the answer your question.
